The Lethaby Gallery, Central Saint Martins, London

‘MAKIN ENDZ MEET’ was a durational performance and film installation. Changing every day the work reacted to locality and the King’s Cross area. John’s families first Off Licence was a stones throws from the gallery and institution on Caledonian Road.

 

Conducting interviews with family and acting out his mother’s role as cleaner for his estate by ironing Central St Martins students clothes John faced what had previously been linked to shame.

 

Dealing again with his working class upbringing John sold a lot of his designer wardrobe, haggling with customers, gaining ownership once more- considering in a world of yester-year John would exclusively wear ‘Hand-Me-Downs’.
